The first workshop for community mobilizers took place between 14-16 February in Krusevo. In this workshop, a group of 16 young people from all 8 development regions in the country learned about strategies and best practices regarding community mobilization as well as how to monitor political party election promises.
Furthermore, the Community Mobilizers defined the term ‘public policy,’ including mapping actors such as the constitutional court, civil society organizations, local and central government. The participants also discussed the process through which citizens’ concerns and issues can become public interest and get the attention of the actors involved in shaping public policies. Community Mobilizers also analyzed the programs of a few political parties as well as the program of the government 2017-2020. Their analyses focused on the following elements: process of designing of the program, realistic vs. unrealistic goals/promises, and inclusiveness of the needs of all segments of society.
In the coming months, Community Mobilizers will:
- go through a series of training and workshops to strengthen their capacities;
- monitor the extent to which the promises of political parties are being fulfilled;
- record short videos related to the monitoring process; and
- implement innovative initiatives whose main purpose is to mobilize the community to be actively involved in political life and closely monitor the work of elected officials.
