Roundtable: Strengthening Journalistic Integrity and Accountability: Post-Election Media Actions and the Importance of Training Academies for Media Workers

Media actions in the post-election period, journalistic integrity, objective reporting and monitoring of the process during elections, the need for capacity building in journalism to advance the profession, were some of the topics discussed at today’s event within the Media Literacy Week, which was organized by the Association of Journalists of Macedonia (ZNM) in cooperation with the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES).

The event was divided into two sessions. The topic of the first session was – Respecting integrity in journalism: ensuring accountability in monitoring the success of government policies. Participants in the first session were Sashka Cvetkovska from IRL, Vasko Popetrevski from 360 degrees, Ana Petrusheva from BIRN and Miomir Serafinović from TV Telma. The second session was on the topic – The Training Academy of the Association of Journalists of Macedonia as a driving force in upgrading the capacities of media workers, ensuring integrity and accountability. During this session, Lazar Sandev conveyed his experiences and views, and spoke about the legal aspects of training journalists and media workers, while Marina Tuneva focused on the ethical dimension of training and Besim Nebiu spoke about how to strengthen professionalism thanks to training aimed at journalists.
