The natural resources are our biggest treasure. Aiming to protect them and the entire nature and biodiversity, the citizens must engage together, mobilize themselves and fight against destroying it.
Jablanica is second biggest mountain in west Shara area. It is situated in the Southwest part of the country, between Ohrid, Struga and Debar, west from the Black Drim river and the Ohrid Lake. The mountain has abundance of water and one of the most famous springs are the Vevcani springs.
In the past years the mountain has been under attack of massive illegal logging of the mountain, deforestation, landslides and floods. Despite the necessary increase of the public awareness for safeguarding the nature and its resources, the institutions must increase the inspections and controls in the region particularly in the period of massive logging and deforestation.
The damages from these illegal activities are huge: landslides, floods, pollution, decrease of the animal resources, destroying of the village roads and disruption the overall economic system.
The Community mobilizer Lejla Kadriovska, aiming to protect the natural resources and the biodiversity of the mountain of Jablanica, is implementing Initiative to mobilize the community and address the issues and challenges.
“Jablanica is disappearing in front of our eyes, now it’s time to be active”, is the moto under which Lejla is calling upon the citizens and the institutions. The citizens must do more, together to act and increase awareness and demand higher responsibility and accountability from the institutions.
For greater contribution, along with a public campaign, the citizens have opportunity to sign the public petition which requests for increased control by the institution in managing with the illegal logging and the “wood mafia.
The petition is part of the Innovative Initiative of the Community mobilizer Lejla Kadrieska, part of the project “Support to Electoral Reforms” of the Swiss Embassy/ the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC), implemented by IFES and NYCM.
